The heartwarming and unforgettable story of a family and the wondrously neurotic dog who taught them what really matters in life. Now with photos and new material.

Labrador retrievers are generally considered even-tempered, calm and reliable;and then there’s Marley, the subject of this delightful tribute to one Lab who doesn’t fit the mold. Grogan, a columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer, and his wife, Jenny, were newly married and living in West Palm Beach when they decided that owning a dog would give them a foretaste of the parenthood they anticipated. Marley was a sweet, affectionate puppy who grew into a lovably naughty, hyperactive dog.

With a light touch, the author details how Marley was kicked out of obedience school after humiliating his instructor (whom Grogan calls Miss Dominatrix) and swallowed an 18-karat solid gold necklace (Grogan describes his gross but hilarious “recovery operation”). With the arrival of children in the family, Marley became so incorrigible that Jenny, stressed out by a new baby, ordered her husband to get rid of him; she eventually recovered her equilibrium and relented. Grogan’s chronicle of the adventures parents and children (eventually three) enjoyed with the overly energetic but endearing dog is delivered with great humor. Dog lovers will love this account of Grogan’s much loved canine.

Most books you can close after the first few chapters and once you’ve understood the concept the author is trying to communicate. The #ASKGARYVEE book is very different due to it being a collection of Q&As. Its strength is not a single mindblowing idea, but a multitude of simple but powerful insights on how to do business and live life. It’s a collection of mantras and ideas, that even though you have heard them before, you almost certainly haven’t implemented in your life to their fullest extent. They feel intuitively right and they don’t stop being useful after reading/hearing them once or twice.

It’s similar to reading f.e. Marc Aurels Meditations. It’s philosophical but deeply practical at the same time. Unlike the Meditations it’s not a literary masterpiece but the ideas in Gary’s book have always been important and will stay important for a long time. Although I’m sure Gary will one day buy the NY Jets, his biggest legacy might become getting self-awareness back into the publics mind and discussion. I hope he doubles down on it.

No plot spoilers here but do yourself a favor and pick this up. The venom storylines were lowkey amazing and I will definitely be checking out his new series.

Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. This is an excellent resource for those who happen to be fans of both ancient Greek and Harry Potter. It’s a nice opportunity to practice your Greek on something other than original text. It’s also great as a teaching resource if you happen to have Greek students. The Greek is representative of the ancient language and there are plenty of paragraphs that would be great practice for those young students of Greek.

These are great books one of my absolute favorite series! They are so captivating, these books are for any age! I would recommend reading the books before seeing the movies of course you get more out of it! J.K. Rowling is so clever the books is very original and well thought out. Over the series you really get to know the characters and she does a great job keeping you interested in the books!

Full of anecdotes from readers of his books (including Encouragement Changes Everything) and his website (www.JohnMaxwellonLeadership.com), the latest self-help from prolific bestseller Maxwell is so readable, audiences may not realize until the end that it contains little in the way of practical advice. Instead, Maxwell offers vague platitudes like, “being a giver is usually a win-win. It can energize you while it helps others,” without providing the meaning or context to make proper advice (what would “a giver” look like in conversation? How can readers become givers?).

A great deal of the book is devoted to first-person anecdotes by those who have worked with Maxwell and his books, who make much of Maxwell’s skills, but little of the steps they took to improve their own communication abilities. Those looking for concrete help won’t find it here; Maxwell doesn’t get much more specific than when he writes, “Connecting is the ability to identify with people and relate to them in a way that increases your influence with them.”

That is the story of Washington we really recognize little approximately. each writer covers the equal vintage matters but right here we get clean material or as a substitute cloth that hasn’t been protected so much it’s far boring to study once more. a very good writing style and continues you fascinated.

“An elegantly written account of leadership at the most pivotal moment in American history” (Philadelphia Inquirer): Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Edward J. Larson reveals how George Washington saved the United States by coming out of retirement to lead the Constitutional Convention and serve as our first president.

Free Read The Return of George Washington: Uniting the States, 1783-1789 Books Online

After leading the Continental Army to victory in the Revolutionary War, George Washington shocked the world: he retired. In December 1783, General Washington, the most powerful man in the country, stepped down as Commander in Chief and returned to private life at Mount Vernon. Yet as Washington contentedly grew his estate, the fledgling American experiment floundered. Under the Articles of Confederation, the weak central government was unable to raise revenue to pay its debts or reach a consensus on national policy. The states bickered and grew apart. When a Constitutional Convention was established to address these problems, its chances of success were slim. Jefferson, Madison, and the other Founding Fathers realized that only one man could unite the fractious states: George Washington. Reluctant, but duty-bound, Washington rode to Philadelphia in the summer of 1787 to preside over the Convention.

Although Washington is often overlooked in most accounts of the period, this masterful new history from Pulitzer Prize-winner Edward J. Larson brilliantly uncovers Washington’s vital role in shaping the Convention—and shows how it was only with Washington’s support and his willingness to serve as President that the states were brought together and ratified the Constitution, thereby saving the country.

Magic. Romance. Rivals. Perfect for fans of Throne of Glass, Falling Kingdoms, and Tamora Pierce.

Before the age of seventeen, the young men and women of Jerar are given a choice –pursue a trade or enroll in a trial year in one of the realm’s three war schools to study as a soldier, knight, or mage… For fifteen-year-old Ryiah, the choice has always been easy. Become a mage and train in Combat, the most prestigious faction of magic. Yet when she arrives, Ry finds herself competing against friend and foe for one of the exalted apprenticeships. Everyone is rooting for her to fail–first and foremost among them is Prince Darren, the school prodigy who has done nothing but make life miserable since she arrived.

The Black Mage: First Year is such a crowned jewel. Twins Ryiah and Alex both join the Academy in the hopes of becoming a full on Mage. The Academy has a grueling initiation process and the first year is meant to weed out any who don’t have the power, talent, or resilience to become a Mage. There are 3 different sets of study a Mage can pursue: Alchemy, Restoration, and the most popular, Combat. Ryiah is far from being the most talented. She stays at the bottom of her class, and always seems to just get by. Her brother isn’t that much better either. Both have the heart, and continue to pursue their dreams of becoming a Mage, despite all that stands before them.

Along the way they meet Ella, a daughter of a noble family, who is not too of their class, but is very talented. Ella is feisty and is extremely supportive. Ryiah runs into some trouble with those who were of noble birth, and feel as if low-borns like Ryiah and Alex don’t belong in the Academy. Priscilla is your classic mean girl, noble birth, and does absolutely EVERYTHING to dissuade Ryiah from becoming a Mage. The hazing gets very intense, and it was so commendable to see Ryiah be as resilient as she was. Even in her doubtful moments, as a reader, I found her resolve admirable.

Prince Darren, the younger son and “non-heir” as Ryiah calls him, attends the Academy despite the rule that Princes are not aloud to attend. However, due to immense power and talent, he’s allowed to attend. Darren is despicable for most of the book, and like Prescilla, who happens to be smitten with Darren, treats Ryiah like utter crap. But slowly, Darren begins to warm up to Ryiah’s sass, her unrelenting spirit to succeed, and her major potential as a Mage. Ryiah’s power continues to grow, despite not being the most talented, and it’s her teachers and Darren that truly notice the power that lies deep inside her.

Haywood is a top notch storyteller. every character is delivered with their own back story. interesting. No uninteresting filler cloth. Then he brings them together and the dynamics are extraordinary. And just the right amount of humour. that is a entire tale, not a normal trilogy intro wherein nothing is resolved. there is closure with the trace of more to come back.

The author spends no time at all trying to explain how time travel is made to work, instead writing about how the characters deal with the situation in which they find themselves. This is a story about people (albeit an unlikely but logically explained collection of heroes) adjusting to a completely new world and the challenges that come from having everything familiar ripped away.

Introducing an instant classic―master storyteller Neil Gaiman presents a dazzling version of the great Norse myths.

Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman stays true to the myths in envisioning the major Norse pantheon: Odin, the highest of the high, wise, daring, and cunning; Thor, Odin’s son, incredibly strong yet not the wisest of gods; and Loki―son of a giant―blood brother to Odin and a trickster and unsurpassable manipulator.

Gaiman fashions these primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds and delves into the exploits of deities, dwarfs, and giants. Once, when Thor’s hammer is stolen, Thor must disguise himself as a woman―difficult with his beard and huge appetite―to steal it back. More poignant is the tale in which the blood of Kvasir―the most sagacious of gods―is turned into a mead that infuses drinkers with poetry. The work culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and rebirth of a new time and people. Through Gaiman’s deft and witty prose emerge these gods with their fiercely competitive natures, their susceptibility to being duped and to duping others, and their tendency to let passion ignite their actions, making these long-ago myths breathe pungent life again.

Wonderful follow-up to Etched in Sand. Well-written, heartbreaking. Important insight into the lives of children in fostercare and those living with parents where the social services system has failed them. Hopefully things have improved, but it’s a reminder that we need to pay more attention to those around us, and help when we can. Lastly, it’s an incredible story of strength and perseverance in the face of tremendous obstacles.

In the highly anticipated sequel to her New York Times bestseller Etched in Sand, Regina Calcaterra pairs with her youngest sister Rosie to tell Rosie’s harrowing, yet ultimately triumphant, story of childhood abuse and survival. They were five kids with five different fathers and an alcoholic mother who left them to fend for themselves for weeks at a time. Yet through it all they had each other. Rosie, the youngest, is fawned over and shielded by her older sister, Regina. Their mother, Cookie, blows in and out of their lives “like a hurricane, blind and uncaring to everything in her path.”

But when Regina discloses the truth about her abusive mother to her social worker, she is separated from her younger siblings Norman and Rosie. And as Rosie discovers after Cookie kidnaps her from foster care, the one thing worse than being abandoned by her mother is living in Cookie’s presence. Beaten physically, abused emotionally, and forced to labor at the farm where Cookie settles in Idaho, Rosie refuses to give in. Like her sister Regina, Rosie has an unfathomable strength in the face of unimaginable hardship—enough to propel her out of Idaho and out of a nightmare. Filled with maturity and grace, Rosie’s memoir continues the compelling story begun in Etched in Sand—a shocking yet profoundly moving testament to sisterhood and indomitable courage.

The New York Times bestselling author of The Kennedy Women chronicles the powerful and spellbinding true story of a brutal race-based killing in 1981 and subsequent trials that undid one of the most pernicious organizations in American history—the Ku Klux Klan.

On a Friday night in March 1981 Henry Hays and James Knowles scoured the streets of Mobile in their car, hunting for a black man. The young men were members of Klavern 900 of the United Klans of America. They were seeking to retaliate after a largely black jury could not reach a verdict in a trial involving a black man accused of the murder of a white man. The two Klansmen found nineteen-year-old Michael Donald walking home alone. Hays and Knowles abducted him, beat him, cut his throat, and left his body hanging from a tree branch in a racially mixed residential neighborhood.

Arrested, charged, and convicted, Hays was sentenced to death—the first time in more than half a century that the state of Alabama sentenced a white man to death for killing a black man. On behalf of Michael’s grieving mother, Morris Dees, the legendary civil rights lawyer and cofounder of the Southern Poverty Law Center, filed a civil suit against the members of the local Klan unit involved and the UKA, the largest Klan organization. Charging them with conspiracy, Dees put the Klan on trial, resulting in a verdict that would level a deadly blow to its organization.

Based on numerous interviews and extensive archival research, The Lynching brings to life two dramatic trials, during which the Alabama Klan’s motives and philosophy were exposed for the evil they represent. In addition to telling a gripping and consequential story, Laurence Leamer chronicles the KKK and its activities in the second half the twentieth century, and illuminates its lingering effect on race relations in America today. The Lynching includes sixteen pages of black-and-white photographs.
